This website has been created for those who are either thinking of immigrating to Canada, or who have recently arrived. It contains information to help you decide if you want to live in Peterborough and how to get settled here. Take time to explore our website to find out more about Peterborough. We hope you will consider making Peterborough your new home!
Peterborough values you as New Canadians – and the skills, experience, and knowledge that you bring with you. The Peterborough Immigration Partnership (PIP) formerly the Peterborough Partnership Council on Immigrant Integration has implemented a community strategy to help immigrants successfully settle into the area. This website is one of the first projects of the Partnership, and it has been created with the help of recent immigrants, immigrant service providers, service agencies, and local employers.
The Greater Peterborough Area
The Greater Peterborough area is home to approximately 135,000 residents. We offer an exceptional quality of life, an affordable cost of living, and access to first-rate educational institutions. We are one of Canada's most walkable cities. A safe and clean city, Peterborough is a short drive or bus trip from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, and offers the ideal mix of city and country living. Our close proximity to major markets in Canada and the United States makes Peterborough a great place to start a business.
Refugee Resettlement Support
Peterborough welcomes refugees and has a dedicated and extensive support network in place. The New Canadians Centre acts as a focal point and resource to help coordinate refugee support efforts by and with individuals, community groups and agencies. In response to the Syrian Refugee Crisis it has two refugee resettlement coordinators working with private and government refugee sponsorship groups and the community. The NCC has been designated as a Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) centre for government supported Syrian refugees. On the New Canadians Centre website you can find information on current refugee resettlement activities, sponsorship groups in the area and how individuals can get involved supporting refugees. The Peterborough Refugee Network, a local community refugee support network has set up a website to share resource information with the objective to ensure the successful transition of refugees into our communities.
