Child Care
If you have young children you will want to know what child care services and programs are available. You may need to find someone to look after your children while you go to work, go to classes, or are out looking for a job. Children under the age of 12 can't be left alone at home.
The Ontario Child Care website provides information on the different types of childcare available and on finding a child care provider. Child care providers may be either licensed or unlicensed depending on the number of children in the daycare. Licensed child care facilities are provincially regulated to protect the health, safety and well-being of children. You can search the Ontario Government website - Local licensed day cares for licensed child care facilities in the area. The City and County of Peterborough maintain a website that provides an overview of services for children in Peterborough. This website includes a chart that shows the age groups served by each local child care provider.
Peterborough Family Resource Centre, Trent University Child Care, and Fleming Child Care, all provide information on their child care services. Godaycare.com maintains a database of child care providers in the area. You can use all of these websites to search for child care that meets your needs.
Working families using child care services may be eligible for financial help. The Ontario Child Care Supplement for Working Families is regulated by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services.
