Skilled Trades
To become qualified in a particular trade, you may have to attend college or complete an apprenticeship. Apprenticeships are a method of training the next generation of professionals, in which the current professional mentors the student.
In Peterborough, Ontario is helping Fleming College build a new skills training facility. The Kawarthas Skilled Trades Institute, an 87,000 square foot facility, will provide new space and equipment for Fleming students training in areas such as carpentry, masonry, welding, plumbing and machining.
In Canada, some trades are regulated. You must have a certificate of qualification or be a registered apprentice to be employed in these jobs. For detailed information, please see the guide to working in the trades from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
