Immigration

ImmigrationPeterborough is proud of its long-standing tradition as a city founded by immigrants. The Immigrant population is increasing in the Peterborough area. Every year the New Canadians Centre Peterborough is serving more and more new clients.  The growth in the number of NCC clients in the past two years is the fastest  growth experienced since the establishment of the New Canadians Centre in 1979.  Peterborough is becoming home to more newcomers compared to 5 or 10 years ago, and the immigrant population of Peterborough will continue to grow.  Not only are the overall numbers of newcomers growing but so is diversity.  In fiscal year 2011/12, the New Canadians Centre served clients from 75 different countries who spoke 53 different languages.

Peterborough’s high quality of life attracts many immigrants. They choose Peterborough because of its ideal size, proximity to Toronto, natural beauty, strong sense of community, and the many local events and festivals taking place all year.
