Immigration Help

OntarioImmigration.ca – operated by the Government of Ontario. This site links you to all of the government services you will need to move to the province of Ontario. It also provides helpful resources like checklists, guides, and information about the province. If you cannot find the answer to your question on their website, you can use their Ask an Expert service.

Settlement.Org – operated by the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants. This friendly website is full of general information on immigrating to Ontario. You can post questions and communicate with experts and other immigrants in the Discussion Forum.

New Canadians Centre – located in Peterborough, the NCC is your local resource. They can answer questions, and have several programs that can help you settle into the community.


Telephone Services

211 – an operator can refer you to Peterborough’s community, social, health or government services. Interpreters are available in over 150 languages, 24 hours per day. This is a free service. You can also access this information online at www.211peterborough.ca.

411 – an operator will look up a telephone number for you. There is usually a small fee for using this service. The cost will be added to your telephone bill. You can look up telephone numbers online free of charge at www.canada411.ca.

Government Services

Service Canada – a central site for services provided to individuals by the federal government, like Social Insurance Numbers and Permanent Resident Cards. Their Newcomers to Canada section is very helpful. You can ask questions through their Contact Us page. You can also go to the Service Canada Centre at 185 King Street in Peterborough.

Service Ontario – services provided by the provincial government, such as driver’s licences. You can ask questions through their Feedback page. You can also go to the Service Ontario counter at 300 Water Street in Peterborough.
